FAQs

Botox (1)

It takes more BOTOX to do the job. Men have much more muscle mass in their foreheads and brows than women do, so it usually requires a larger amount of product to achieve a perfect amount of relaxation. Women typically require 30-50 units of Botox, while men are usually in the 50-80 unit range.

The ideal brow shape is different for a man. Brow shape is the KEY to natural looking BOTOX, and if the shape is off because of bad technique, the result will be less than ideal. Women’s brows should have a gentle arch that sits a few centimeters above the brow bone. Men’s brows should not have much of an arch, and should not sit much above the bone. A straighter, lower brow is more attractive for a man, and getting this look depends entirely on how your injector administers the BOTOX.

Men require a more precise technique for best results. Just as we discussed in point #2 above, it takes a special eye and technique to give men the results they are after. Many inexperienced or unqualified injectors use the same technique on every person, men and women, who get BOTOX, and while this may sometimes lead to good results, it will not be consistent or appropriate for everyone. Ideal BOTOX results in both men and women require an elite level of knowledge of the anatomy of the forehead and brow muscles, a unique understanding of how they work together, an artistic eye that appreciates the subtle differences in brow shape between men and women, and a steady hand that is capable of putting the BOTOX precisely where it needs to be.

Men have different hairlines which requires a slightly different injection pattern. Men often have much higher hairlines than women, and in some cases when men have shaved heads this is especially true. Sometimes it’s necessary to extend the Botox up onto the scalp for the most natural results depending on the hair style. This is never an issue with women, but is a very commonly missed technique in men. Another plus for extending BOTOX into the scalp is that it has been shown to slow the rate of hair loss in younger men who are going bald

BOTOX® Cosmetic Treatment (7)

Botox® is a cleaned purified protein that is created from the Clostridium botulinum bacterium, which is what prevents the nerves responsible for muscular movement. The FDA approved this treatment in 2002.

PRE & POST TREATMENT in an ideal situation it is prudent to follow some simple guidelines before treatment that can make all the difference between a fair result or great result, by reducing some possible side effects associated with the injections. We realize this is not always possible, however minimizing these risks is always desirable.

  • Patient must be in good health with no active skin infections in the areas to be treated
  • Patient should not be needle phobic
  • Avoid alcoholic beverages at least 24 hours prior to treatment Alcohol may thin the blood which will increase the risk of bruising
  • Avoid anti-inflammatory / blood thinning medications ideally, for a period of two (2) weeks before treatment. Medications and supplements such as Aspirin, Vitamin E, Gingo Biloba, St. John’s Wort, Ibuprofen, Motrin, Advil, Aleve, Vioxx, and other NSAIDS are all blood thinning and can increase the risk of bruising/swelling after injections. This is more important prior to dermal filler treatment, as fillers have a higher risk of bruising associated with their injection than Botox®
  • Schedule your appointment at least 2 weeks prior to a special event

The Powder Room uses BOTOX Cosmetic® proactively, to prevent early signs of aging, as well as to treat a variety of immediate concerns, including:
  • Vertical lines between the eyebrows and on the bridge of the nose
  • Squint lines or crow’s feet at the corners of the eyes
  • Horizontal forehead lines
  • Platysmal muscle bands (vertical lines) often visible on the neck
  • Lower facial muscles such as the masseter muscle (to lessen the squareness and fullness of the lateral jawline), wrinkles around the mouth, and turning down at the corners of the mouth

Typically a Botox Cosmetic® treatment will last anywhere from three to six months. The time frame for how long the treatment will last varies because everyone’s skin is different so depending on your skin and the area injected your results will vary.

The injections block the impulses to the muscles that make your muscles relax. Wrinkles that are on your face will go away almost instantaneously, giving you a fresher younger look.

Three to five days following the treatment you should see a noticeable difference of the treated areas. The results will last between three and six months.

Dermal fillers are injected into your skin to fill lines and restore lost volume, enhancing your facial contours and lips for natural-looking results. They’re injected into the deeper layers of skin at the site of sunken areas creases, scars or to smooth and fill out the area for a firmer, more youthful appearance.

Many different treatments are often used at the same time with dermal fillers or other cosmetic procedures for an all-over smoothing of wrinkles and facial lines and restoring of lost volume. For example, Botox Cosmetic® treatments may be used on forehead wrinkles, while a dermal filler may be better used to treat lines at the mouth area.

Follow-up treatments are usually required to maintain the effect. For instance, hyaluronic acid fillers (Juvederm®, Restylane™ and Perlane®) last up to 12 months. Keep in mind that everyone’s skin is different, the timing of any additional wrinkle treatment will vary from person to person. When repeat treatments occur over time, either the interval between appointments becomes longer, or less product is required to achieve the same results, or more areas can be treated with the same amount of product.

After your initial dermal filler treatment, you should notice visible results immediately.

Injectable Dermal fillers are popular for treating the appearance of aging skin without surgery. They work by plumping up an area beneath the skin. Injectable Dermal Fillers can:

  • Fill in wrinkles and fine lines
  • Improve the appearance of scars
  • Plump up cheeks and lips
  • Shape the jaw and other areas of the face

Latisse® (3)

The lashes grow gradually over time with some people beginning to see longer lashes in about four weeks, with full growth at 16 weeks.

Specifically, patients treated with LATISSE® experienced a:

• 25% increase in lash length
• 106% increase in lash thickness/fullness
• 18% increase in lash darkness

We believe it does so by increasing the growth cycle (anagen) phase of your eyelash hair cycle. Anagen is the growth phase of all hair. We believe that it increases the length of the anagen phase and the number of hairs in this growth phase.

LATISSE® is the only FDA-approved product to grow lashes longer, fuller and darker for those who do not have enough lashes. It has been studied for safety and efficacy and is available only by prescription.

Teoxane (8)

Permanent fillers last longer than resorbable fillers in your skin. Their effect is irreversible. Consequently, removing the implant or correcting the result becomes very difficult. In addition, permanent fillers can cause delayed hyper-sensitivity.
It is highly advisable to use resorbable fillers for safer results.

Fillers and botulinum toxine are both used to treat wrinkles. However, their mode of action is completely different.
Botulinum toxine is injected into the muscle. It causes local paralysis and thus reduces expression lines. It is a preventive method.
HA fillers are gels, injected under the skin to directly fill the wrinkles and smoothen skin surface. It is a corrective method.

Only adults can get injections of the products.
Whenever the first lines appear, our products can be used. At this stage, TEOSYAL® PureSense Redensity [I] is the proposeed product as a part of a strategy to prevent the first wrinkles and rehydrate the skin thus preventing the appearance of deep wrinkles.

Normally the effect of an injection depends on the type of the product and differs from one person to another. For a biorevitalizing treatment with TEOSYAL® PureSense Redensity[I], the result lasts for 3 – 4 months. For a filling treatment using TEOSYAL® fillers the effect can last from 12 up to 18 months (TEOSYAL® Ultimate). Refer to your practitioner for more precise information.

HA injections are contra-indicated and must not be used:

– In combination with peeling, laser or ultrasound-based treatments
– If the patient has cutaneous disorders, inflammation or infection at the treatment site or near to this site.
– In the case of patients having a known hypersensitivity to hyaluronic acid, with a history of severe allergy or anaphylactic shock

You should inform your practitioner of all your medical and disease history and your current and past drugs and treatments.

BEFORE the injection:
It is strongly proposeed to avoid taking aspirin, anti-coagulants and anti-inflammatory drugs for a week prior to the procedure. Refer to your practitioner before interrupting any chronic treatment.

AFTER the injection:
Avoid drinking alcohol, taking a plane or doing any kind of sports for a period of 72 hours post-injection. SOFT LIFT™ (3)

Both the BOTOX® cosmetic and JUVÉDERM® dermal fillers are injected gently under the skin using a very thin needle. In order to make the procedure as comfortable as possible for you, a topical gel will be applied prior to any treatment to minimize any pain or discomfort. This procedure can take between 30-60 minutes depending on your aesthetic goals and the size of the treatment area.

Both BOTOX® cosmetic and JUVÉDERM® treatments are very safe but, as with all dermal fillers, there are potential and mild side effects which include:

  • Bruising
  • Temporary weakness of adjacent muscles
  • Tenderness
  • Redness
  • Swelling

These side effects experienced at the injection sites will typically resolve within a few days, leaving you with brighter, firmer and smoother skin.

During a consultation with one of our skin specialists, we will take into consideration factors such as your aesthetic needs, current health status and medical history to evaluate whether SOFT LIFT™ is right for you. Typically, it should not be considered a treatment option for:

  • Patients who have severe allergies with a history of anaphylaxis
  • Patients with known allergies to lidocaine or gram-positive bacterial proteins
  • Patients with known allergies to any components of BOTOX®
  • Patients who are pregnant or breastfeeding
  • Patients who have a motor neuron disease
  • Patients who have a neuromuscular disease

When carried out safely and by a trained and experienced skin care specialist, SOFT LIFT™ is a quick and comfortable alternative to more aggressive surgical procedures, personalized for your individual goals and needs.

Selphyl (5)

The entire procedure takes about 30 minutes to perform in your doctor’s office.

The number of treatments needed depends on each individual patient, the desired outcome, and your doctor’s treatment plan.

Unlike other products that are acidic (low pH), Selphyl® PRFM has close to physiologic pH. There may be some temporary discomfort during the injections. Like all injection procedures, one can experience occasional redness and bruising immediately following the treatment that resolves quickly.

There have been no known side effects associated with Selphyl® reported to date. As with any injectable procedure, some patients may experience some mild and temporary irritation, swelling, bruising, itching, discoloration or tenderness at the injection site.

There is virtually no risk of allergic reaction. The Selphyl® PRFM System is used to rapidly collect and isolate a patient’s own PRFM for injection and contains no animal or synthetic products.

Belkyra (7)

BELKYRA® (deoxycholic acid) injection is the first and only FDA-approved injectable treatment that is used in adults to improve the appearance and profile of moderate to severe fat below the chin (submental fat), also called, “double chin.” It is not known if BELKYRA® is safe and effective in children less than 18 years of age. It is not known if BELKYRA® is safe and effective for use outside of the submental area.

The active ingredient in BELKYRA® is deoxycholic acid, a naturally-occurring molecule in the body that aids in the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat. When injected into the fat beneath your chin, BELKYRA® causes the destruction of fat cells. Once destroyed, those cells cannot store or accumulate fat.

Only you and your doctor can decide if BELKYRA® is right for you. If you’re bothered by submental fullness, or double chin, ask your doctor about BELKYRA®.

BELKYRA® has been the focus of a global clinical development program involving over 20 clinical studies with more than 2,600 patients worldwide, of which over 1,600 have been treated with BELKYRA®.

The safety profile of BELKYRA® is well characterized. The most common side effects are swelling, bruising, pain, numbness, redness and areas of hardness around the treatment area. BELKYRA® can cause serious side effects, including trouble swallowing and nerve injury in the jaw that can cause an uneven smile or facial muscle weakness.2 These are not all of the possible side effects of BELKYRA®. Call your healthcare provider for medical advice about side effects.

You and your doctor will customize your BELKYRA® treatment regimen, including how many treatments you need, based on your desired chin profile. Many patients experience visible results in 2 to 4 treatment sessions. During these sessions, your HCP will administer BELKYRA® into the fat under your chin using multiple injections. Up to 6 treatment sessions may be administered spaced no less than one month apart.

In clinical studies, results for BELKYRA®-treated patients who had a ≥1-grade composite improvement were 8% (1 treatment), 28% (2 treatments), 43% (3 treatments), 55% (4 treatments), 66% (5 treatments) and 72% (6 treatments).

In clinical studies, results for BELKYRA®-treated patients who had a ≥2-grade composite improvement were 0% (1 treatment), .2% (2 treatments), .8% (3 treatments), 3.5% (4 treatments), 3.9% (5 treatments) and 15% (6 treatments).

59% of subjects in the clinical trials received all 6 treatments.

When injected into the fat under your chin, BELKYRA® causes the destruction of fat cells. Once destroyed, those cells cannot store or accumulate fat. After the aesthetic response is achieved, retreatment with BELKYRA® is not expected.

MD Codes™ (7)

Some of the main concerns patients have with ageing include skin laxity, volume loss and lack of structure. As we age, these factors become more prominent, and can make us look tired and withdrawn. These indications are easily treatable with natural, HA based dermal fillers, which work to reapply structure, elevating and rejuvenating the facial features.

They are often used in conjunction with botulinum toxin, which help prevent you from overworking your muscles, deepening and creating lines and wrinkles.

The MD Codes™ are a series of strategic, formulated injection points, which allow for a subtle and natural-looking result. The Codes are a useful tool which Dr. Suzanne Mady has adopted, allowing patients to understand their treatment motivation and the strategy behind injecting specific areas, and what this will achieve.Traditionally, dermal filler treatments were rather ad hoc when injectors treated the problem area. However, clinical studies and research suggests that a holistic approach is much more beneficial for patients, treating the source of the issue itself.Because of the skill of Dr Suzanne Mady and the products used, Dr. Suzanne Mady’s Clinic is able to provide natural results.

The HA based dermal fillers that we use at Dr. Suzanne Mady’s Clinic provide longevity, without permanency. This enables you to stay in control of your looks, and if ever necessary, the results can be reversed. On average, your dermal filler should last between 12-18 months, but this varies from patient to patient, depending on how quickly your immune system breaks the filler down. After two weeks from treatment, you should notice the lasting effect of your treatment.

There are very few contraindications to having dermal filler treatment. We advise that those who are pregnant or breast feeding avoid treatment, although there is no clinical data to prove that it is harmful to the mother or baby. You should also avoid having filler at least 48 hours before you fly, as this may cause the filler to migrate.

Dr. Suzanne Mady offers a wide selection of treatments and the most advanced technologies. Dr. Mady has a wealth of knowledge of advanced dermal fillers, facial anatomy as well as extensive training and experience in injecting. She provides a customized consultation, which includes extensive patient education and a treatment plan tailored to achieve your goals.

The Codes outline key areas to inject, including the lips, the cheeks, the jawline, the brow, under eye and temples. Upon consultation, your assigned doctor will go through the various techniques that can be used for your specific requirements.

Patients may have some slight swelling in the treated area for a day or so, and may also encounter pin prick bleeding and mild bruising. This is easily masked with makeup.

Volite (9)

Juvederm Volite skinbooster is the latest range of hyaluronic acid skinbooster launched by Juvederm. It is an innovative hyaluronic acid product designed to improve skin hydration, skin elasticity, and nourish the skin from the inside out for up to 9 months.

The Juvederm Volite skinbooster involves a series of micro-injections of long-lasting hyaluronic acid throughout the skin area. The treatment area is first applied with an anaesthetic cream. After considerable anaesthesia has set in, detailed injections of the product using ultra-fine needles are done to ensure correct depth placement of the product throughout the skin. Juvederm Volite is made up of hyaluronic acid molecules mildy cross-linked through the patented Vycross Technology. It absorbs water, and brings deep hydration to the treated area, as well as conferring elasticity, glow, and firmness.

Individuals who experience dry skin, fine lines, fine wrinkles, and mild skin laxity on their face, neck and back of hands can benefit from this procedure. Those with good skin who want to preserve their youthful looks may also consider Juvederm Volite as a preventative treatment against skin ageing.

The procedure will take around 15-30 minutes, depending on the areas injected. The longer part is the preparation phase of the procedure. The patient will have her face cleansed before application of an anesthetic cream on the intended treatment regions for 45 minutes. Subsequently, the anesthetic cream will be removed and the face cleaned and disinfected before commencement of the procedure.

Downtime mostly consists of injection marks. These marks will resolve over the next 1-3 days, and patients can choose to conceal them if needed.

Common side effects are related to the site of injection, and these include bruising, redness, swelling, and tenderness. Longer term side effects like infection at treatment sites is usually a failure to adhere to proper sterile procedural techniques and rules. This happen occasionally in the news when injectable procedures are done in facial salons or spas, making it an unsafe and wrongly administered treatment. This is why we always emphasis the need to only do this procedure with qualified practitioner in a reputable clinic environment.

There are a number of precautions one should take note of, including:

  • a concurrent illness
  • a concurrent skin infection
  • if you are taking any medications that increase your risk of bleeding
  • if you are taking any immunosuppressive medications

Juvederm Volite has shown to be able to improve skin hydration and elasticity and maintain them up to 9 months.

Most patients see an observable improvement in the quality of their skin after one treatment. To maintain the result, a repeat treatment may be done in 6 months.
